HelpCureHD aims to help improve the quality of life for those affected by Huntington’s Disease by contributing financial, emotional, and mental support while trying to find the cure.
The ProblemThere is no cure for Huntington’s Disease. Currently, there is a 50/50 chance a child could inherit the disease if a parent has HD in their family line.
There is a way to stop the gene from being passed on, PGD-IVF. A procedure that implants embryos that do not have the HD gene but it can cost $25,000-$30,000. This treatment is the only way parents who are at risk can guarantee their biological child will be HD-free.
- Remove the financial burden that PGD-IVF has on families who are at-risk and in-need families who want to receive this treatment to stop the HD gene from being passed on to the next generation
- Our broader focus is to continue developing partnerships with fertility clinics across the country and raising funds to help cover these costs for many more families.
- Have 10 HD-Free babies through the PGD-IVF grant program in 2019
How we’re beating Huntington’s Disease:PGD-IVF
Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) screens embryos for HD before they are implanted using in-vitro fertilization (IVF). This process, allows couples to eliminate the chance of their children inheriting and passing on Huntington’s Disease. PGD-IVF is the only way for parents to guarantee their biological child will be HD-free. This process can wipe out the Huntington’s Disease gene forever.
